Onto a few more states.......

The title of this photo really stood out to me.....I briefly drove through there and it was quite dreary so I really didn't see much but clouds and rain.

"Indiana Can Be Beautiful" Print by tinkkiouWhen I hit Wisconsin the weather wasn't much better, actually I might characterize the whole trip that way ! I think this painting sums up what i saw through my car window most of the time.

Preparing for my road trip to Seattle!

I might be m.i.a for the next week or so, but i'm hoping to be able to post at least a few pics from my trip out to Seattle! Not sure if i'm going to get any interesting pics, since it the dead of winter through most of the states, but i'll keep my fingers crossed. Here's a few items that feature some of the states i'll be driving through.

Starting off in Brooklyn.......I love the Brooklyn Bridge, it's near where i live and i've already started a collection of Brooklyn bridge paintings in my home... Love this one from Fauneyerby:

Moving into my home state of New Jersey......I was a little dissappointed to see that most of the work i found talked or featured North Jersey.....I was raised in Southern New Jersey which is very different than what most people think New Jersey is like. Here's some lovely Tags made from a map of New Jersey..............enigmachck

One more state for today.......Ohio.....I briefly went there, when i say briefly i mean i took about 10 minutes and stepped out of the car:)......This is one of the states i will be staying overnight in so my experience will be a little more fullfilling :)....... I love how this t-shirt looks like someone just whipped out a ball point pen and started doodling, by ohioandpirates

How to create tea stained paper

One of my favorite techniques when creating some of my handmade made books is to use tea stained paper to give it antique look. Here's a simple how to.....

1. Card stock is the best to use as it holds up well being soaked in water, but i also find that alot of fine art printmaking papers work well to as they are made to withstand soaking as well.
2. Depending on the size of the paper find a large plastic container, I personally use the very large under the bed storage boxes because i do mass quantities all at once.
3. Boil enough water to fill the container so that it is about a centimeter above the top of the paper when you fill the container.
4. I like to use 3 tea bags for every 2 cups of water. I prefer to open the tea bags and let the leaves sit directly in the water. I also have used loose tea leaves, but that can be a little more expensive. The advantage to using loose leaves is that you can press and rub the leaves into the paper for deeper color and can create some great effects.
5. For a light stain just soak the paper in the prepared tea. For a darker effect rub the tea leaves all over.
6. Play around a bit you can really develop some great techniques that work well for your desired effect.

Here are some excellent tea stained items from etsy........

I've also been playing around with using balsamic vinegar that has been reduced as a painting meduim. Once i perfect the technique I'll be posting it here.

My Absolute Favorite Soap!!!

I LOVEEEEEE the way this soap smells! It also has little coffee grinds that work well to exfoliate slightly with out being too harsh. Spa therapy has lots of wonderful soaps and by far is one of the best body product shops on etsy! Check it out!
